I went to see the new Star Trek film a couple of nights ago, at the cinema! Not a place I go to that often as, lets face it, most films that they show are wank. But I have been a fan of Star Trek since a kid, more Next Generation then Original, but lets not get into that now! But anyway whenever they bring out a new Star Trek I usually go and see it. Overall I quite liked it, some interesting twists and turns, especially how they brought Leonard Nimoy (original Spock) back into it! Not sure the tailor for it is any good, but here it is anyway. I recommend seeing the film.
I love Clair de Lune, such a beautiful piece of music. The best version of it I have come across so far is from the film Tokyo Sonata which I blogged about recently, it’s got an energy I haven’t found anywhere else. Unfortunately You Tube only has a clip of it half way in plus it loses much of the energy, I think, when not viewed within the context of the film, so watch that first if possible then watch this to remind you, or don’t it’s up to you! But still it’s nice. Search you tube for Clair De Lune, there are many versions, I like it best with just the piano, I think, else it gets to cluttered.
Frequently I try to work out the logic of the Far Right, but you begin to realise there is no logic and its pretty ridiculous, groups like Combat 18, Blood and Honour and The Aryan Nation are clearly just mentally ill.
Is the BNP different? After all there policy’s certainly seemed to have moved away from there more extreme days. But I think this is the important point tot remember. It’s the same lunatics running the asylum as before. The same people that have said that they admire Hitler, that the Holocaust never happened, that a few years ago Nick Griffin himself attended and spoke ta a meeting with the KKK saying they fundamentally agreed (the BNP and KKK) but that you need to go about a certain way to get it.
Are BNP voters racist? Probably not, the BNP are a evil little organisation. They frequently use under handed tactics to convince people of their lies and ideology arguments. For instance they will go into areas with new ethic communities, and begin stirring the pot when before things where fine, things kick off and they come back saying, see we told you so. Well no things where fine before you scum bags came along!

The attempt to cling to tradition celebrating ‘Britishness’ in a shameful attempt to attract support for something the general population wouldn’t support if they knew the real BNP. You just need to look at there poor understanding of British history to start with. Firstly Britain has always been a multicultural society! We have mixed and integrated other cultures into ours for centuries. Much of what we even call British now wasn’t originally. This idea of an island on its own is ridiculous. Not to mention there classic gaffe recently in which for the ‘Battle of Britain’ campaign they in fact used an image of a WW2 plane that was flown by Polish asylum seekers here during the war…
Even with their toned down image to read discussion forums where people are saying they plan to vote BNP they don’t even realise what the BNP are still willing to admit. For instance the BNP still oppose mixed race marriage, still oppose homosexuality, lump all Muslims into the same pot, it is still a white only party, they don’t allow any other race to join. You know up until a couple of years ago they were still coming out with denying the holocaust (griffin himself twice), still trying to use distorted social Darwinism to say that white people are more intelligent then black people. Can people honestly believe a party that was saying this stuff a very short time ago could have changed that much? You know you just need to look at the many videos out there were high ranking BNP members have been caught saying very racist things right up until the present day.
Finally have a look at this, I might have posted it here before from Griffin talking about Obama, it’s just so ridiculous I’m not sure anyone could possibly take him seriously after watching it…
The European Elections are coming up, June 4th believe! The good news is that there is finally a party to vote for that is pro worker, anti big business and NOT a nationalistic party! The No 2 EU yes to democracy is a temporary joining together of left parties and trade unions to protest against the anti worker EU, watch this video to find out more!
Analysis of the recent Budget and Economic Crisis by Peter Taaffe, the General Secretary of the Socialist Party. The camera work is a bit bad, but it’s a good speech.
I saw this film a few weeks ago at the ICA in London and loved it. Truly brilliant film, even though I was a bit hung over it gripped me. It’s a very interesting portrayal of contemporary family life in Japan. The film is shot in a clinical humorous manner, I think much more like real Japan. Often you see there media and they convey notions of being very extrovert when I think the opposite is actually true outside of this media perception of the place. The country is very nationalistic, repressive and traditional, generally anyway.
I also badly need a copy of that piano piece at the end. Its so enchanting but can’t find it anywhere! From what I can muster the films Score was written for the film aside from Clair de Lune. Seems to be out on DVD mid May, not sure if it’s still being shown anywhere.
Really awesome video from 2007 of a lecture by John Pilger about the media machine and western propaganda, 43 minutes so bit of a watch but well worth it.
I have been very much enjoying Charlie Brookers Newswhipes recently. It highlights very well the ludicrous mad nature of the media which only serves to depress and make people feel the worlds a horrible place and their powerless to do anything about it. It’s amazing the amount of stuff that gets no news coverage, and you wonder what would happen in the world if it did. Like for instance all the factory occupations that have been happening around the world in recent months, they get no coverage. In fact the only time they will ever cover any industrial action is when the action itself will serve to inconvenience a lot of the general public or when they can distort the message of the strike like with the oil refinery strike into some sort of racist message like British jobs for British workers, which the strike wasn’t about anyway! The strike was about how in fact there hadn’t been a equal chance for everyone to apply the for 200 jobs in question and that non unionised workers had been shipped in and seperated from the other workers on converted prison ships! There was very little nationalism within the strikes and the BNP were given their marching orders when they attempted to weezel their way in, but was any of that reported, of course not!
